North East Planning Update
Women in Planning North East were proud to hold their first breakfast seminar on Thursday 5th September 2019. Tickets for the event sold out within a couple of hours of release so Womble Bond Dickinson, who hosted the event, kindly offered us a room with greater capacity. The extra tickets were quickly snapped up and it was fantastic to see so many people, both women and men attend the event.
Attendees enjoyed some informal networking with tea, coffee and pastries then sat down to listen to three fantastic talks from our speakers for the morning. Stephanie Hall a Barrister from Kings Chambers gave a planning law update covering a plethora of interesting cases based around heritage, what is material when considering an application and conditions attached to S78 applications. Then Rachel Sykes, a solicitor from Womble Bond Dickinson gave an overview of the recent changes to legislation relating to CIL which came into force on 1st September and finally Kate Ashworth, also a solicitor at Womble Bond Dickinson gave a talk on using DCOs to deliver housing development which comprised a discussion of the DCO process and changes over time.
It was a hugely successful event and we look forward to it becoming a regular event for Women in Planning North East. We have another breakfast seminar scheduled for the beginning of November based around housing delivery and a Christmas social pencilled in too.
