Caroline Baker, Partner Cushman & Wakefield - Caroline is a Partner and Head of Cushman & Wakefield’s Manchester office and last year celebrated working for C&W/DTZ in Manchester for 20 years. She advises a range of clients in the North West, on all aspects of development issues ranging in scale from sub-regional to site specific. Caroline’s strength lies in her ability to draw upon the market advice provided from our property sector specialists and incorporate this into strategies that support development. She specialises in residential development advice including strategy and development advice to local authorities, as well as overseeing market analysis to support landowners and house builders to understand local markets, pricing products and target occupiers. She often advises on emerging markets including PRS and Town Centres.

Paul Jones, Development Manager Capital & Centric - Paul works for Capital and Centric, leading on the delivery of NOWHAUS, a design led suburban housing solution. A chartered planning and development surveyor since 2004, Paul was also awarded a Professional Doctorate in the field of the Built Environment by the University of Salford in 2017.

To celebrate international women’s day this year, we thought we would do something a bit different. We, here at the London Branch, wanted to celebrate the amazing work of Suffragettes, so join us as we visit the “Votes for Women” exhibition at Museum of London.

Celebrate International Women's day with the opportunity to take charge of your career and learn more about how to achieve career success!

Speakers confirmed:

Sara Todd - Deputy Chief Executive at Manchester City Council and a Planner by trade. Sara’s current role involves leading services in the Growth and Neighbourhoods Directorate of the Council, playing a key role in delivering the Manchester Strategy with a focus on delivering jobs and growth and creating places where people want to live. Sara’s previous roles within the Council include Regeneration Manager for South Manchester, Head of Regeneration for the City and Assistant Chief Executive (Regeneration).

Victoria Hesson - Managing Director at Gladman Developments, Victoria holds a BA (Hons) in Architecture and an MA in Town & Regional Planning and is a member of the RTPI. Victoria joined Gladman Developments as a Land and Planning Director, having previously worked for 13 years’ in the housebuilding industry, for a number of major house builders including; Persimmon Homes, Miller Homes, Linden Homes and Redrow. She was appointed Managing Director in 2014 and is actively involved in all aspects of the business from land identification and planning to land disposal.

Rob Haslam - Director in Manchester Planning team of Savills and responsible for providing strategic and delivery advice to a range of public and private sector clients. Rob’s previous roles include Head of Planning Services and Strategic Planning Manager with Trafford Metropolitan Borough Council.

Join Women in Planning and CBRE Planning on the 13 July for our summer drinks event, kindly sponsored and hosted by CBRE.

We will hear from two leading ladies within CBRE's Planning Team, Alison Tero and Lorraine Hughes who are both Senior Directors and part of CBRE's Women's Network in London. Women in Planning’s successful event series Proud of Women is back. We are honoured to have the RT Hon Helen Hayes MP for Dulwich and West Norwood join us for a unique event where she will reflect on her career in planning and politics.

Most recently, Helen has had an active role in scrutinising the Housing and Planning Bill in the House of Commons.

Before becoming an MP, Helen Hayes was a planner for over 19 years at Urban Practitioners and from 2011 a Director in the planning team at Allies and Morrison.

Our Proud of Women event series celebrates women working in planning. On 8th July 2015 Women in Planning will be joined by Carol Rhea, President of the American Planning Association (APA).

Carol Rhea is a founding partner of the Orion Planning Group, and previously created and staffed Rhea Consulting. In addition to her work as a consultant, Rhea has worked as a city, county, regional, and state planner. Her passion is helping local governments build planning capacity, and working with small to medium-sized communities to address planning challenges.

This is an opportunity for our members to learn about issues facing planners in the United States. Carol Rhea will also talk about her career and provide tips for women working in the built environment sector.

The event will culminate with Women in Planning's Summer Social kindly sponsored by Oyster Partnership.

Michèle Dix joined TfL in 2000 as director of Congestion Charging on a job-share basis with Malcolm Murray-Clark. She started her career at the GLC after her PhD and became a chartered civil engineer through their transport planning graduate scheme. Michèle later went on to work for Halcrow Fox where she became a board director. Michèle is responsible for leading TfL's strategic thinking on the future transport needs of London, testing and challenging solutions; providing clear direction on appropriate transport solutions for the future; coordinating the implementation of local plans and borough partnerships; and developing major scheme interchanges and initiatives. Michèle became MD of TfL Planning on 4 June 2007.
