Our Hub serves as both a platform and a resource for planning and designing places and spaces informed by the lived experiences of women, girls, and gender-diverse people.
We invite you to register your projects, research, or consultancy services with us, and we’ll feature them on this page to help share your work with others interested in progressing gender informed planning.
Projects
Policy Guidance
London Borough of Tower Hamlets have included and inclusive design policy in their Local Plan. The commissioned an evidence base to support this policy and Inclusive design guidance, which gives hyper local and specific examples of how inclusive design can be applied in the borough. The first document, 'This is for the majority' has been co-created with over 500 women and girls that live and work in the borough, learning from their day-to-day experience to understand what their priorities are for equitable design. The second document takes the recommendations made in the evidence base and translates them into practical design guidance that can be applied at scale, across the borough and proposes a gender inclusive design framework.

Book
Building Inclusion by Marsha Ramroop. The book Building Inclusion- A Practical Guide to EDI in Architecture and the Built Environment supports great engagement and co-creating for better outputs arriving at, going through, and delivering, planning.
Consultants
In Her Place works with developers, councils and other public bodies on gender mainstreaming projects - ensuring that the needs of women and girls are foregrounded at every stage of the planning process. Our particular expertise is in parks and public spaces, but work with a range of other experts on documentation, lighting and engagement.
Jennie Savage is an experienced designer who co-creates solutions for urban design and planning by learning from lived experience and community aspiration. She creates multifaceted programmes of engagement and uses a design framework shaped by gender inclusive principles to ensure that a broad range of voices inform and shape planning and design outcomes.
Lorraine Calott is a female focused lighting consultant, trainer and researcher fighting for well lit streets and spaces to ensure the movement of women and girls is not restricted and promotes safety. The only accredited Secured by Design consultant, training and working with SBD to improve lighting in high risk areas.
Marina Milosev is a landscape architect and urban planner, recognised for her expertise in gender-informed planning. She has led research on how the built environment impacts women and girls and developed principles that integrate gender equality into planning and development. As a consultant, Marina works with local authorities, developers, and designers to create places that work for women and girls.
