Following a couple of committee meetings, some venue scouting and cocktail tasting our Yorkshire committee members decided that a relaxed drinks event in Leeds would be the perfect way to launch the Yorkshire branch of Women in Planning. With the promise of half price cocktails we settled on city centre bar Dirty Martini as the venue and set about advertising the event in partnership with our generous sponsors, CBRE and Kings Chambers. Our combined networks covered a wide range of private, public and third sector planners, as well as students, and ticket bookings were soon coming in thick and fast. We focused on keeping the event informal and welcoming, hoping to attract industry regulars as well as those who may not have been to a networking event in a while, or ever! The evening came around and the room quickly filled with people and plenty of chatter! It was a great chance for committee members to work our way around the room and introduce the Women in Planning network to the guests and talk about what they would like to see us do in the future. There was a definite appetite for the network in the room, with plenty of people saying they found the environment inviting and less intimidating than other events they had been to. We were pleased to see that we had succeeded in attracting a range of planners, including some students from Leeds Beckett. The event was attended by around 80 guests and we were thrilled with the turn out! Thanks to all of those involved in organising the event and to our sponsors CBRE and Kings Chambers. We are busy planning events to fill the 2019 calendar and look forward to welcoming you along later in the year!
